Why do Bakers Bake?

At myBaker, our mission is to connect the most talented independent bakers to customers across London!

Our bakers come from all walks of life. From lawyers to bankers to paramedics, but no matter what their profession is or what background they come from, they are accepted onto the myBaker platform for their sheer talent in the art of baking. With the pressure of a full time job, one must wonder why our part time bakers take on extra work? Rather than spending it in the kitchen baking, wouldn’t the better alternative be to lounge around with a glass of red? The reason is simple – there is more to baking than just making a bit of cash.

Many of us slave all day for large corporations and there is a limit on how much creativity you can showcase. How much self expression can you convey in a spreadsheet or a document? Our bakers on the other hand can turn their visions into reality, exploring their creativity by experimenting with different flavours, different techniques and different decorations. No baker is the same and each cake is bespoke.

Life’s problems have a habit of following us everywhere. Our bakers turn to baking to “switch off” and escape from their daily worries. A quarrel with your manager, or a run in with a peer, that doesn’t matter when you are focussed on the bake. All that matters is how the cake is going to turn out when baked, how the buttercream will be applied and how the cake will look after you complete the finishing touches. We often hear that baking can be “very therapeutic”.

Finally, our bakers bake because they love it. It brings a great deal of satisfaction and joy when they see their products being enjoyed. This resonates with most of our bakers and is why our bakers will stay up until all sorts of hours even after a long day of work to bake for others. Our bakers are truly amazing!
